Spotlight on Riverside

Reached from the bottom of the town's East Hill, Riverside Estate is one of the most sought after locations in Colchester for home buyers. So what makes it so special?
These well-constructed family homes were mostly built in the mid 70's and are contained within a bend in the River Colne which forms its eastern and northern boundary, and bordered by East Hill to the south and the town's Roman wall to the west. Yes, some residents can actually look out of their windows and see a Roman wall! Riverside really is quite unique in Colchester.
Riverside is only a few minutes' walk from Colchester's historic town centre with its fantastic retail offering. Here you will find many of your High Street favourites represented on the town's main streets and in its shopping precincts, along with a wide selection of boutiques and independents scattered around the town's historic lanes. You'll also find a growing choice or eateries including branded chains such as Turtle Bay, Wagamama and Zizzi to name but a couple, but if you want to eat somewhere with more of a local flavour you'll find most tastes are catered for including Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese, and of course there is a great selection of the ubiquitous Chinese and Indian restaurants. Colchester also enjoys a bustling nightlife with bars and pubs to suit everyone's plans, and with home being a short walk away there will be no "Taxi to Riverside" calls late at night."
And when it's time to relax? Castle Park is just a couple of minutes' walk away. The park, which as the name suggests contains a castle in the form of the first Norman Keep to be commissioned by William the Conqueror after he invaded us in 1066, is the envy of many a town and city across the UK and really is the jewel in Colchester's crown. The upper park, where the castle is found, is beautifully maintained throughout the year and a favourite place for Colcestrians to relax when the sun is out, whilst the lower park contains a large green space where you can kick a ball around or enjoy one of the many events that take place there during the summer months such as the popular Food and Drinks Festival and various concerts that are put on. And you can even pop home and use your own loo!
Finally there is the beautiful River Colne itself for you to take a stroll along. Turn right and you will come out on East Street by the historic Siege House, famous for the evidence on its walls of musket ball strikes during the Civil War in 1648, or head off to the right and you will eventually come to North Station Road and be just a few minutes from Colchester's North Station with it's direct fast trains to London's Liverpool Street station.
