During the first half of 2015 it was reported that Colchester had the biggest house price rise in England, according to Zoopla, and in the UK we were only beaten only by Edinburgh. Average property values in Colchester increased by £19,298 (7.7%) in the six months to July 22 in the town, meaning a typical house was then worth £269,897.
We thought we'd take a look at how house prices are performing in Colchester in 2018.
In June 2018 the average price for a property in Colchester now stands at £313,869.
Breaking this down into property types, we can see flats in Colchester selling for an average of £173,763 with terraced houses, the most popular choice, fetching £240,442.
So what is this rise down to?Well simply put, Colchester is in a great location with good access to the A12, and direct fast train links to London's Liverpool Street Station, making it a desirable place for many to relocate to, especially those priced out of London and Chelmsford. This is evidenced by the number of new homes being built in the borough, 912 were built between 1 April 2016 and 31 March 2017 alone, and two new garden villages are planned to the east and the west of the town to accommodate the town's growing need for houses.
People just want to come here, and no wonder. We are the oldest recorded town in Britain and the original Roman capital with a unique history and heritage, we have a fantastic town centre what seamlessly blends the old with the new offering all your favourite High Street stores alongside independent shops and boutiques, we are a short distance from some of the most beautiful countryside in East Anglia, and a quick car trip to the coast.
