Colchester's Park And Ride

Published at: 15/08/2017

It's now over two years since Essex County Council officially opened Colchester's Park and Ride service, so we thought we'd take a closer look at it.

A Park and Ride service does exactly what it says, you park your car in a designated car park outside the town and ride the bus into the town centre. Then, when you are finished, you ride the bus back to the car park. The premise is a simple one, to encourage less car use, reduce congestion in the town centre, and ease pressure on the town's car parks.

The idea of creating a Park and Ride in Colchester had been around for many years, with several sites suggested at different times, but it was only with the development of new homes and commercial properties and that opened up the north of the town that a suitable site was identified just over the A12 from Colchester United's Weston Homes Stadium.
