Some of Colchester based singer jazz and swing singer Daisy Jackaman's musical ambitions are already coming true.
Daisy, who attended the town's Gilberd school where she was awarded the highest mark in her year for GCSE Music, and is the daughter of Dean Jackaman who is the Managing Director of Jackson & Co, has already sung at the legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London during their 57th Birthday celebrations. But that's not all. In 2014 she made the final of Open Mic UK, she has recently auditioned for popular television show The Voice for their 2018 series, and has recorded her first album which is due to be released in early 2018. Tracks from the album, titled Just 15, can be heard on Soundcloud:
All this and Daisy, who is on the waiting list to attend the prestigious BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology, has only recently turned 16.
Daisy, who has been singing since she was 10, says that Amy Winehouse and Adele have both been major influences, and names other influences including Gregory Porter, Kirt Elling, Incognitos Katy Leone and Vanessa Haynes, Imaani, jazz DJ and singing legend Ian Shaw, and of course Ronnie Scott's resident Natalie Williams.
Encouraged and coached by piano teacher Mike Salmon andby vocal coach Tara Wilcox, multi-talented Daisy, who also plays the piano and guitar, has a natural talent for singing, and her excellent range and relaxed have helped her to create her own unique jazz style which audiences just can't seem to get enough of. And as is that isn't enough, she also manages to find the time to study the Estel Module for vocal excellence in London to fulfil another of her ambitions, to teach singing and encourage others to follow in her footsteps.
If you want to see Daisy, who is no stranger to singing at celebrity weddings, she can often be found performing during Sunday lunch at Mimosa restaurant in the town's Colchester Business Park. But you better be quick as Daisy is in hot demand and receives regular requests from DJs to sing vocals and has been approached by several record labels.
So catch her while you can!
